WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME ?
Resident Evil 6 is a 2012 third-person shooter developed and published by Capcom. As one of the largest and most ambitious entries in the Resident Evil franchise, it was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2012, followed by a Windows version in 2013. Later, it was re-released with all downloadable content for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game features four interconnected campaigns starring Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jake Muller, and Ada Wong, whose stories intertwine across multiple global bioterrorist incidents. Each campaign offers a distinct tone and gameplay style, blending action, horror, and cinematic storytelling.
Conceptualized in 2009 and entering full production in 2010 under producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Resident Evil 6 became Capcom’s largest project, involving over 600 developers. The game received mixed critical reception: while praised for its graphics, controls, and cinematic presentation, it was criticized for its sprawling narrative, uneven pacing, and shift from survival horror to fast-paced action. Despite controversy, it achieved commercial success, surpassing 14.9 million units sold by 2025. Its successor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017), would later return the series to its horror roots in first-person perspective.
Gameplay centers on four campaigns, each following one of the main protagonists and their partners. Leon is joined by Secret Service agent Helena Harper; Chris fights alongside BSAA sniper Piers Nivans; Jake, the son of infamous bioterrorist Albert Wesker, partners with DSO agent Sherry Birkin; and Ada Wong operates largely alone, with an optional second player controlling a non-canon agent. Each scenario features distinct gameplay mechanics and difficulty levels—Leon’s emphasizes atmosphere and horror, Chris’s focuses on military combat, Jake’s offers melee-heavy encounters, and Ada’s combines stealth and puzzle-solving.
The game introduces new mobility features such as sliding, rolling, and shooting while moving. Cooperative gameplay is a core element—up to four players can connect online, and drop-in co-op allows others to join a single-player session at any time. Quick-time events appear frequently, requiring precise timing to survive cinematic sequences. Health management is handled through tablets, crafted by combining herbs. Players who fall in battle can be revived by partners, and if all human players die, the game restarts at the last checkpoint.
Enemies include traditional zombies and the new J’avo—intelligent, weapon-using creatures capable of communicating, regenerating, and mutating into different forms depending on how they’re injured. Players earn skill points from defeated enemies, which can be spent on upgrades like improved weapon power or faster healing. Three upgrades can be equipped at once and apply across all campaigns. A stamina bar regulates melee and “quickshot” attacks, encouraging strategic combat. The game also features two side modes: Mercenaries, where players survive waves of enemies against a timer, and Agent Hunt, which allows players to invade others’ campaigns as enemy creatures.
The story unfolds across the globe. In 2012, Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin meet in war-torn Edonia amid a C-virus outbreak. They are hunted by Ustanak, a massive bioweapon, and eventually captured by Neo-Umbrella leader Carla Radames, masquerading as Ada Wong. Meanwhile, BSAA captain Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans attempt to stop the outbreak but suffer devastating losses when “Ada” infects Chris’s team. Traumatized, Chris goes into self-imposed exile, suffering memory loss.
In 2013, U.S. President Adam Benford prepares to expose the truth about the Raccoon City incident, but a bioterrorist attack in Tall Oaks turns him into a zombie. Leon S. Kennedy and Helena Harper are forced to kill him and uncover that National Security Advisor Derek Simmons orchestrated the attack to cover up his involvement with Neo-Umbrella. Leon and Helena pursue Simmons to Lanshiang, China, where Jake and Sherry have escaped captivity.
As outbreaks spread across China, Chris regains his memory and reunites with Piers to stop “Ada.” Their pursuit converges with Leon’s mission, leading to a confrontation where both realize Carla Radames is behind the chaos. Carla, a scientist mutated by her own experiments, seeks revenge on Simmons. Leon, Helena, Chris, and Piers fight to contain the crisis as multiple C-virus missiles threaten global devastation.
In the final battles, Chris and Piers infiltrate an underwater Neo-Umbrella facility to rescue Jake and Sherry. Facing the monstrous Haos bioweapon, Piers sacrifices himself by injecting the C-virus, mutating to defeat the creature and ensure Chris’s escape. Jake and Sherry kill Ustanak and flee the collapsing base, while Leon and Helena destroy Simmons after his grotesque mutations. Ada eliminates Carla and destroys the laboratory, then disappears on a new assignment.
The story concludes with each protagonist moving forward—Leon and Helena are reinstated, Chris leads a new BSAA squad, Sherry continues government service, and Jake begins a new life fighting bioterrorism under a secret identity. Resident Evil 6 stands as a massive, cinematic chapter in the franchise, blending intense action with interwoven narratives that explore loyalty, sacrifice, and humanity’s struggle against biological terror.
