Random events include wagon accidents, attacks by wild animals or bandits, and storms that may damage supplies. Weather conditions can slow the journey, increasing the number of turns needed to reach Oregon City.

The game ends when the wagon reaches Oregon City or if the pioneers die along the way due to attacks, disease, or starvation. Shortages of food or clothing, particularly in cold weather, or random events such as snake bites or hunting accidents, can cause illnesses. Minor diseases require medical supplies, while serious illnesses may necessitate paying a doctor. A lack of food can also lead to famine and death among the pioneers.
