Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is an action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, released on October 20, 2023 for PlayStation 5 and later on January 30, 2025 for Microsoft Windows. Based on Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man, the game features a story inspired by the long-standing comic book mythology while drawing from various adaptations across other media. It serves as the third entry in the Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy, following Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020), focusing on Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they face the powerful symbiote Venom.

Both Spider-Men embark on new chapters of their lives, struggling to balance their personal responsibilities with their roles as New York’s protectors. As Harry Osborn, Peter’s best friend, reappears and Miles works toward his future after high school, the bond between the two heroes is tested when the Venom symbiote begins to take control of Peter. Miles and their allies must confront the darkness growing within Peter and find a way to help him break free from the symbiote’s influence, no matter how impossible it may seem.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a single-player action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective. The gameplay mechanics have been significantly expanded to deliver an even more immersive and varied experience compared to previous entries in the franchise. Players can seamlessly switch between the two protagonists, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, each equipped with unique abilities that reflect their distinct powers and character development. These innovations introduce a new level of depth and dynamism to both combat and exploration, enhancing the overall fluidity and excitement of the gameplay.

Peter Parker begins his first day as a physics teacher at Brooklyn Visions Academy, where Miles Morales is one of his students. Their lesson is abruptly interrupted by Sandman’s rampage, forcing both Spider-Men to fight him. After being fired for abandoning class, Peter returns to his late Aunt May’s home in Queens, where he reunites with Mary Jane—and is surprised by Harry Osborn, who has miraculously recovered from his terminal illness. Harry invites Peter to join his new environmental startup, the Emily-May Foundation, dedicated to “healing the world.” Meanwhile, Kraven the Hunter and his army arrive in New York, targeting superpowered individuals.

During a prison transfer, Kraven’s Hunters kidnap Martin Li, the man responsible for Miles’ father’s death. Investigating further, Peter learns Kraven seeks a worthy opponent and has already killed Scorpion, Vulture, Shocker, and Electro. With Miles’ help, Black Cat escapes Kraven’s pursuit to Paris. Later, during a trip to Coney Island, Kraven attacks again, and Harry—now superpowered by a bio-organic exosuit—reveals Peter’s secret identity. When Kraven captures Curt Connors, the trio tries to rescue him, but Kraven turns Connors back into the Lizard and mortally wounds Peter. Harry’s exosuit saves Peter by bonding with him, giving him immense strength but also a darker personality.

Corrupted by the symbiote’s influence, Peter becomes increasingly violent, straining his relationships. When Miles defeats Peter in a brutal fight, he helps him remove the symbiote—but Harry reclaims it, transforming into Venom. Driven by the symbiote’s will, Venom kills Kraven and attempts to infect the world. Mary Jane is temporarily transformed into Scream, but Peter saves her, and with help from Miles and Li, he gains Anti-Venom powers to counter Venom’s horde. After a fierce final battle, Peter destroys Venom, freeing Harry but leaving him comatose.

In the aftermath, Mary Jane starts a podcast, Peter steps back from being Spider-Man to rebuild the EMF, and Miles becomes the city’s main protector—closing one chapter while hinting at the next.
