Call of Duty: Black Ops III is a first-person shooter video game developed by Treyarch and published by Activision, released on November 6, 2015, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, as well as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the 12th installment in the Call of Duty franchise and the third main entry in the Black Ops sub-series.

The campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes in Call of Duty: Black Ops III were completely redesigned. The campaign supports up to four players in online co-op (and two locally), allowing for a fully customizable soldier—male or female—and offers high replayability, encouraging players to explore multiple ways to complete each mission. Set in a near-future world, Call of Duty: Black Ops III introduces soldiers enhanced through advanced armor and the D.N.I (Direct Neural Interface) system — known as IDN in the French version. This technology is directly implanted into the soldiers’ brains and spinal cords, allowing them to communicate seamlessly with each other and command centers, as well as take control of machines and vehicles remotely. Many soldiers also have cybernetic limbs, replacing their original ones to improve combat efficiency. Treyarch aimed to make the campaign less scripted, giving players the freedom to complete missions in multiple ways, while also significantly improving the game’s artificial intelligence to create a more dynamic and immersive experience.

The story of Call of Duty: Black Ops III takes place in the year 2065, in a dark and technologically advanced future. Humanity has created a new kind of soldier known as the Black Ops, enhanced by cybernetic technology. As a result, the line separating humans from machines has become increasingly blurred, raising questions about identity, control, and the cost of progress.

Following the drone attacks led by Raul Menendez in Black Ops II, world powers developed a powerful anti-drone system called the Directed Energy Air Defense (D.E.A.D.). This new technology effectively ended aerial warfare, forcing battles to return to the ground. To maintain global order, several major alliances emerged, including the Winslow Accord—similar to NATO—which created the D.E.A.D. network, and the Common Defense Pact, a coalition resembling the old Warsaw Pact and composed mainly of Russia and the European Union.

These factions are locked in conflict over the planet’s remaining energy and natural resources, as global warming wreaks havoc on the environment. The Singapore mission, for example, showcases the chaotic effects of climate change and war. Alongside the global superpowers, other groups have risen to power, such as the 54 Immortals, a dangerous criminal organization operating in Singapore, and the Nile River Coalition in Africa, which seeks to control the flow of the Nile. In this fragmented world, humanity’s struggle for power, survival, and technological dominance defines the new era of warfare.
