In this version, players can also build their own freight company. After taking out a loan to start your truck fleet, you’ll need to secure contracts to grow your business. The game offers plenty of variety from transporting hazardous materials over long distances to quick jobs, all while driving and customizing a wide selection of trucks.

In Euro Truck Simulator 2, your main goal is to take on delivery contracts, earn money, and work your way up to owning your own truck. As you progress, you’ll be able to enhance and customize your vehicle, gain experience and new skills, expand your garage network, and eventually build your own transport company by hiring other drivers. Each driver has unique attributes, so it’s important to select the right one depending on the cargo and distance of the job.

Players can also choose an avatar and personalize their trucks in detail. For those who enjoy tuning, there are plenty of options: upgrading engines, repainting the truck, modifying mirrors, or adding new side steps—so long as the budget or bank loan allows it. Managing the business also includes paying employees, repairing vehicles, refueling, and growing internationally.

One of the game’s biggest strengths is its realism. From the authentic road and landscape graphics to the driving mechanics, Euro Truck Simulator 2 requires players to follow the rules of the road. Speeding the wrong way on highways or causing accidents will result in fines deducted from earnings. That said, the absence of visible damage to vehicles remains a minor drawback.

All in all, Euro Truck Simulator 2 offers an engaging, realistic simulation experience with impressive visuals and gameplay variety. While already a standout in its genre, there’s still space for refinement, particularly when it comes to collision effects.

At the beginning of the game, the player must choose a starting city from among 64 options spread across 12 European countries: Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Slovakia, and Switzerland. Initially, the player only has access to a limited area surrounding their chosen city. This area expands progressively as deliveries are completed and new cities are discovered, unlocking additional contracts.

The player does not yet own a truck but does have access to a one-slot garage. Therefore, they must work for another transport company to earn money before purchasing their own vehicle—unlike the previous game, where players started as independent drivers. Earned money can be used to customize and upgrade the truck, open new garages, or hire drivers to work for the player.

Experience is also gained after each delivery, and players receive a skill point with every level-up. These points can be used to:

• Unlock new cargo types requiring ADR certificates (explosives, gases, toxic substances, liquids, and flammable or corrosive materials)

• Extend delivery distances (initially limited to 500 km, with no limit at the highest level)

• Transport special cargo (classified as exceptional, fragile, or urgent), which yields higher earnings but comes with specific constraints

• Enable eco-driving options to reduce fuel consumption

Each skill has six experience levels that unlock progressively from 0 to 6—except for ADR certificates, which are categorized by material type and can be unlocked in any order. As players level up, they receive increasingly valuable rewards and bonuses.
