Borderlands 3 is a 2019 action role-playing first-person shooter developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. It serves as the direct sequel to Borderlands 2 and is the fourth main entry in the series. The game was released on September 13, 2019, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows, followed by releases for macOS, Stadia, and next-generation consoles. A Nintendo Switch version launched in October 2023. The story begins on Pandora but soon expands beyond the planet. Each new planet offers distinct environments, characters, and challenges, making exploration more diverse than in previous games. Sanctuary III also allows players to re-spec skill trees, retrieve lost loot, and upgrade weapons or gear.

Borderlands 3 features integration with Twitch, allowing stream viewers to interact with live gameplay. Audiences can inspect the streamer’s equipment and even earn in-game rewards through special events. This innovation helped expand the game’s popularity within the online community.

The main story campaign takes roughly 35 hours to complete, with numerous side quests and challenges adding to the total playtime. Once completed, players can unlock True Vault Hunter Mode, a New Game Plus mode with tougher enemies and better loot. The Guardian Rank system replaces the old Badass Rank system from Borderlands 2, offering permanent upgrades that apply across all characters.
