WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME ?
Monster Hunter: World is an action RPG video game developed and published by Capcom. It was released in January 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and later on August 9, 2018, for Microsoft Windows. The game is part of the Monster Hunter series.
Monster Hunter: World is an action RPG that retains the core gameplay mechanics of previous entries in the Monster Hunter series while introducing new features, such as Scoutflies and Investigations (also known as contracts), as well as various quality-of-life improvements like detailed descriptions of skills that enhance the player's stats. The main objective is to hunt monsters, either solo or in co-op with up to four players.
The game takes place across several different maps. A central hub allows players to access various functions: equipment customization, online bonuses, mini-games, and mission selection. The other areas, which are smaller but function as open-world environments, each host multiple monsters and feature a day-night cycle. While seemingly minor, this cycle can significantly influence monster behavior and their presence in the world.
Monsters have several advantages over players. They can detect hunters through sound and scent, making stealth and awareness key elements during hunts. However, players can use the environment to their advantage—triggering rockfalls, collapsing trees, releasing water, or utilizing environmental poisons found in the ecosystem to weaken or trap monsters.
In multiplayer, players can communicate via voice chat to better coordinate their hunts and use emotes to enhance interaction. They can also form communities, or clans, of up to 50 members to enjoy a private hub and organize group activities more easily.
Monster Hunter: World is an action role-playing game played from a third-person perspective, where players create their own character and journey to the “New World,” an uncharted land teeming with massive creatures. As part of the Research Commission, the Hunter operates from the main base, Astera, and is tasked with tracking, slaying, or capturing dangerous monsters to both protect the settlement and advance scientific study. The game’s progression revolves around a core gameplay loop: defeating monsters, gathering materials from them, and using those materials to craft stronger weapons and armor, which in turn allows the player to take on even more formidable foes.
Rather than relying on character levels, a Hunter’s abilities are defined entirely by their equipment. Players can choose from fourteen weapon types, such as the great sword, bow, or hammer, each offering unique combat mechanics. Armor pieces contribute additional attributes and skills, allowing players to customize their build for specific encounters. Most equipment must be crafted from monster parts and natural resources collected during hunts, reinforcing the game’s focus on preparation and mastery.
Astera serves as the central hub for all operations. Here, players can buy and sell goods, forge or upgrade weapons and armor, and accept quests. The forge is vital, enabling players to craft new gear with increased defense, elemental resistances, and special effects. The game introduces a streamlined skill system, where skill bonuses accumulate across equipped items, encouraging strategic loadouts. Other key facilities include a farm for cultivating plants and materials, a training area for mastering weapon techniques, and a gathering hub that hosts multiplayer Arena challenges. Players can also visit the canteen, where eating meals before a hunt grants useful buffs such as increased health, stamina, or resistance.
Through its blend of exploration, crafting, and strategic combat, Monster Hunter: World delivers a deeply rewarding experience centered on persistence and progression.
