WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME ?
Among Us is a multiplayer online party game developed and published by the studio Innersloth. It was originally released in 2018 on Android, iOS, and Chrome OS, then later launched on Windows, Nintendo Switch in 2020, and on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, and Steam Deck in 2021.
Set in a science fiction universe, the game places each player in the role of a crew member aboard a spaceship. Players can either be regular crewmates or hidden impostors. Both crewmates and impostors can have special roles that grant them unique abilities—for example, an engineer crewmate can use ventilation systems, while a shapeshifting impostor can disguise themselves as another player.
The goal for crewmates is to complete tasks around the map and identify and eliminate the impostors. Meanwhile, the impostors must kill off the crewmates without getting caught.
Among Us is a multiplayer social deduction game designed for four to fifteen players. At the start of each round, players are divided into two roles: Crewmates and Impostors. Up to three Impostors are secretly selected, while the rest become Crewmates. The game takes place on one of five maps — The Skeld, MIRA HQ, Polus, The Airship, and The Fungle, a jungle-themed area.
The Crewmates’ objective is to complete tasks scattered across the map or identify and eject all Impostors. Tasks consist of short minigames such as repairing wiring, downloading data, or fueling engines. Meanwhile, Impostors must eliminate Crewmates or sabotage systems to cause chaos and win the round. Sabotages include disabling oxygen, triggering reactor meltdowns, or shutting off lights, forcing Crewmates to respond quickly. Impostors can also “vent”, using hidden tunnels to move stealthily, and fake tasks to blend in.
When a dead body is discovered, any player can report it to call a meeting, or use the Emergency Meeting button to discuss suspicions. During meetings, players debate and vote on who they believe the Impostor is. The player with the most votes is ejected, though their role is revealed only if the host has enabled that setting. Ghosts—players who have been killed or ejected—can continue helping their team: Crewmate ghosts can still complete tasks, while Impostor ghosts can continue sabotaging systems.
Various surveillance systems help Crewmates spot suspicious activity, such as security cameras on The Skeld, door logs in MIRA HQ, and vitals monitors in Polus. Some tasks, called visual tasks, provide visible animations that can confirm a player’s innocence—such as the MedBay scan.
Over time, Among Us introduced numerous roles to diversify gameplay. Crewmates can become Engineers, who can briefly use vents; Scientists, who monitor vitals; Guardian Angels, who shield others after dying; Noisemakers, who alert nearby Crewmates when killed; Trackers, who can follow another player’s location; and Detectives, who investigate murders. Impostors can take on roles like Shapeshifters, who disguise themselves as others; Phantoms, who turn invisible; and Vipers, who dissolve bodies to hide evidence.
In December 2022, a Hide and Seek mode was added, featuring a single visible Impostor—the “seeker.” In this fast-paced variant, Crewmates must hide or complete tasks before the timer runs out, while the seeker hunts them down.
Through its blend of teamwork, deception, and deduction, Among Us remains one of the most engaging social multiplayer games, fostering both tension and hilarity in every round.
